Painting Appropriate For A Supernatural Production
The innocents, a local play finally opened and introduced some local actors. At the set is a portrait, about which legends abound, about its supernatural ties. It has been said that an unknown individual has held on to this picture for quite some time. As if entranced, this lady stopped her travels, parked her car and instantly bought the picture and up to now she does not know why. Even as she thought of how she can possibly afford it, she still stayed there waiting for the clerk to hand it to her. It was school time soon and she realized that she needed to purchase clothes, books and supplies for the kids. I am sorry I cannot afford it no matter how beautiful it is, she recalls pondering about these words which she will tell the saleslady. Prior to the attendant returning the portrait on the wall, the lady suddenly shouted that she badly wanted it and will get it no matter what happens to her.
A problem awaited her as she walked out of the antique shop still in disbelief that she had bought that expensive thing just like that, how was she possibly going to explain to her husband about her compulsiveness as she bought the portrait so mindlessly? Using oil as medium, the painting was of a Borzoi, a Russian wolfhound and it seemed like it was created around the late 1800′s or perhaps sometime around the early 1900′s. The subject of the painting, a Russian wolfhound was depicted in a almost straight on pose, showing only its shoulders and head, and for the few who have been trained to be familiar with such a breed, they should be able to notice this absurdity, and not just gush about how nice or lovely the painting is. Looking at the shoulder and chest, you will see that it is not well proportioned.
It was a strange fact that the woman, whose eyes were expertly trained of how a Borzoi should appear and knew so much about the breed, still went ahead and purchased it. That night, her husband arrived and found the picture hung against their wall but then instead of blowing up since his wife overspent for that painting instead of buying the needs of their children first, she was surprised that he felt exactly what she gad felt too when she first saw it. It was the subject of so many photographers and throughout all the pictures taken by both amateurs and experts, no two photographs ever came out to be similar. It was simply bizarre how at some times, a spectral face would appear on the right portion of it, then there would be occasions when the dog in the picture would appear flat while three dimensional in some, but in almost all of the instances mo matter if the portrait would appear to be in color or black and white, strange lights would surface and linger.
One time, husband and wife were discussing about whether there was an entity that came along with the picture they had of the Borzoi hound, but then the husband insisted that there was nothing weird about it and they simply imagined too much and it was just light reflections playing with their minds. Initially hanging on the wall, a large ceramic plate fell with a crash but when they say it on the floor, there was not one sign of breaking.
The Innocents play producer director approached the couple who were very happy to loan the portrait to him after he explained that this would be great on his set, as the story he was doing is about the supernatural. We never truly found out who or what it is that moved into our home the day we got the portrait and perhaps you can help us with this as we lend this to you for your production, the Innocents, the couple told the producer.
